Color Masterbatch

GSmach has delivered more than 1000 sets of high performance extruder machines for color masterbatch. We would like to share the experience for the following special applications.

Color masterbatch compounding is one of the main applications for twin screw extruder. Color masterbatch is used for any polymer and all kinds of products.

There are three types
of Color Masterbatch:

1) Mono color masterbatch or SPC (single pigment concentrate): polymer compounding with one single pigment and mostly without the wax and additive

2) Tailor-Made masterbatch or Custom coloring: mixing different Mono color masterbatch pellets to get the color the customer wants

3) Customized masterbatch: mix polymer and several pigment and additives

Experience for Special Applications

  1. Single Extruder for Each Color: Each color variation requires its own extruder to ensure purity and consistency.
  2. Premix Process for Better Dispersion: Most pigments require a premix process to achieve optimal dispersion in the polymer matrix.
  3. Separate Room and Dust Collecting System for Mixer: To maintain cleanliness and prevent contamination, a dedicated room and dust collecting system are necessary for the mixing process.
  4. Use of PP in Powder Form: PP in powder form is essential for one-time compounding to ensure uniform dispersion of pigments.
  5. Triple Screw Extruder for Better Dispersion and Output: The use of a triple screw extruder offers advantages such as better dispersion due to increased free volume and an additional screw for mixing. This results in higher output and improved product quality.

Based on Mono Color Masterbatch: Tailor-made masterbatch is produced by combining mono color masterbatch with additional additives or pigments.

  • Color Variety: By producing mono color masterbatch first, a wide range of colors can be achieved, allowing for customization to meet customer preferences.
  • Quality and Consistency: Separating the production process into mono color masterbatch and tailor-made masterbatch ensures consistent quality and performance of the final product.
  • Efficiency: Utilizing a triple screw extruder and separate rooms for mixing helps optimize production efficiency and maintain product integrity.

  • Triple Screw Extruder: Ensures better pigment dispersion and higher production efficiency.
  • Premixing Process: Conducted in a separate room to maintain cleanliness and prevent contamination.
  • Strong Vacuum System: Effectively removes moisture and maintains the properties of PBT.
  • Recycled PET: Used as the base material for PSF color masterbatch.
  • Carbon Black Compounding: Bottle flakes are compounded with 25-40% carbon black powder.
  • Efficient Feeding: Split feeding by loss-in-weight feeders to minimize dust.
  • Under Water Strand Pelletizing: Ensures continuous production with minimal waste, even during strand breaks.

Micro pellets color masterbatch, with their small size of ≤ 1mm, offer advantages in uniform distribution, cost savings, and ease of handling compared to conventional masterbatches. Produced using an underwater pelletizing system, they ensure better dispersion, require less colorant, and are dust-free, making them an efficient and economical choice for coloring polymers.
